Before starting any topology optimization, the configured design should be carefuly analysed to get an impression of the actual design space. This information is useful for deciding what option to chose as the current design and to set the reference volume.
Design analysis should be an obligatory operation before running actual optimization. This is especially true if, the part is configured by using various configurators. The analysis reveals how the configured design looks like and lists the lower and upper volume parts available. Note that the target volume part can only be within these limits.
Figure. The target volume part can only be within the listed lower and upper volume parts.
In topology optimization ProTOp computes the current volume part as
By default, the reference volume is the total volume of the free domain of the model. However, there may be situations where it might be convenient for the user to change this default value, for example when lattice configurators are engaged.
