Special situations modeling

Topology optimization is very sensitive to proper modeling of special situations that are often related to support boundary conditions or structural connections. Most notably one should very carefully address the modeling of

• contacts and
• various fastening situations.

The situation is especially problematic if the material in the very vicinity of the contacts and fasteners has to be optimized.
